Cross-Border Collections

Cross-border collections let a merchant collect payment from a customer in a supported African local currency while receiving NGN in the merchant wallet. Supported corridors currently include Kenya KES collections through M-Pesa and Uganda UGX collections through MTN mobile money. NexaPay converts the amount to NGN using provider sell rates and credits the merchant’s NGN balance after payment confirmation.

How It Works

  1. Create a quote for the customer’s source amount.
  2. Show the customer amount, local currency, and merchant NGN amount in your checkout.
  3. Initiate a collection with the customer’s payment details.
  4. The customer approves the local payment request.
  5. NexaPay receives provider confirmation.
  6. NexaPay instantly credits the merchant’s NGN wallet with the locked quoted amount.
  7. NexaPay sends a signed merchant webhook.

Rate Locking

The NGN amount is calculated and locked when the collection is initiated. If the provider rate changes after initiation, the collection still uses the locked rate stored on the transaction.

Supported Corridors

Use GET /cross-border/corridors to retrieve currently supported corridors. New countries and payment methods will be added through the same endpoint and collection flow.

Balance Credit

Successful cross-border collections credit the merchant’s NGN businessBalance. Failed collections do not affect the merchant wallet.
